The Indian Air Force (IAF) was formally authorized on 8th Oct 1932. Its 1st ac flight arrived into being on 1st April 1933. It held the strength of 6 RAF-trained directors and 19 Havai Sepoys (air soldiers, literally). The aircraft record composed of 4 Westland Wapiti IIA Indian army co-operation biplanes at Drigh Road as the ‘A’ Flight center of the prepared No.1 Squadron.

For a period, these Blenheims were to give almost the sole air cover for vessels arriving at Rangoon shelter.
