Vizag Steel Plant, commonly identified as Vizag Steel, is a combined steel producer in Vizag, India produced using Soviet and German technology. The organization has evolved from a loss-making business to a three billion $  turnover business registering an increase of 203.6% in only 4 years. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was given Navratna status on 17th-Nov-2010. Established in the year 1971, the organization concentrates on providing value-added steel, with 214,000+ tonnes delivered in Aug-2010, out of 252,000 tonnes weight total of saleable iron provided.

On 17th-Apr-1970, the Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, declared the govt’s judgment to build a steel plant at Vizag. With the presentation of support from the govt of the former USSR, a polished project developed some times later. A complete project description for a plant with a range of 3.4 Mtpa was made in Nov-1980 and Feb-1981, a deal was approved with the USSR for the development of working studies of the blast furnace, coke ovens, and sinter plant. The wind furnace company was laid, with 1st mass concreting, in Jan-1982. The development of the local government was also excited at the same time.

The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Township, also recognized as Ukkunagaram was formed in 8000 areas of land, giving accommodations and housing for many of the workers. The government has 8200 homes spread over 12 areas and 3900 acres, as great as a green belt of 4260 (acres). The city also has various churches, temples, gurudwara, a Mosque, athletic facilities, hospital, indoor & outdoor stadiums. Some of the various important temples include the Goddess Kali temple, Shivalayam, Venkateshwara temple, Puri Jagannadh temple, Shirdi Baba temple, Tri-Shakti temple, Ayyapa temple, and the Sathya Sai Baba Mandir.
